We recommend travel insurance for all trips abroad. This is because you could incur additional treatment costs no matter where you are travelling.

Within Europe

In Europe, you are insured through the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC). You will find it on the back of your TK eHealth card.

Countries in which the TK eHealth card is valid

This entitles you to the standard medical care available in the respective country, for example if you have to consult a doctor or go to hospital. These may not be the same as the services usually provided in Germany. Private insurance reimburses any medical expenses you may incur and is therefore a useful addition to TK's insurance cover, even if you are travelling within Europe.

You can find details in German of which services in your destination country are likely to incur additional costs in the information sheets on health insurance abroad published by the German Liaison Office for Health Insurance Abroad. Unfortunately, we are unable to quote specific amounts.

Long-distance travel

Supplementary insurance is essential if you are travelling to countries outside Europe. This is because we are unable to cover any of your medical expenses if you are travelling to destinations such as Africa, the USA, Canada, South America, Australia or Asia.

The travel health insurance plans offered by TK's cooperation partner Envivas provide excellent insurance cover. Find out more here.
